The Town of Green Level operates under the Mayor-Council plan as provided by Part 3 of Article 7 of Chapter 160A of the General Statutes.

The governing body of the Town of Green Level is the Town Council, which has five members.

The qualified voters of the entire Town elect the members of the Council.

The members of the Town Council are elected for four year terms of office. The mayor shall be elected by the Council from among its membership to serve as its pleasure. The mayor has the right to vote on all matters before the Council.
